The 12th Man—August 3, 2009
TWENTY QUESTIONS AT THE START OF TRAINING CAMP

1. How long will it take to sign Aaron Curry?

2. Do the Seahawks have a legitimate interest in Michael Vick?

3. Marcus Trufant has yet to practice due to back spasms, prompting Seattle to sign former Ram and Lion CB Travis Fisher just to have enough corners in camp. How serious is Trufant’s injury?

4. How will Seattle’s Big Three injury risks—Matt Hasselbeck, Walter Jones, and Patrick Kerney—hold up under repeated practices and exhibition games? How much time will they see in the preseason?

5. Does Seattle have two starting caliber guards now that Mike Wahle has been forced to retire? How quickly will Max Unger be able to contribute and at what position, guard or center?

6. Mansfield Wrotto has been practicing with the first team at right guard since the beginning of camp. Is he a legitimate contender for the starting position?

7. Are Rob Sims and Chris Spencer busts or can they step in this season and finally start playing up to their potential?

8. Sean Locklear and Ray Willis have spent some time practicing at the guard position. Could Locklear possibly see some playing time at guard this preseason?

9. Will Julius Jones and T. J. Duckett really thrive in the zone blocking, “one-cut” running scheme being implemented, or will Seattle struggle to run the ball again this year?

10. Justin Forsett has already made waves with his blitz pickup of David Hawthorne but undrafted free agent Devin Moore has also made a good first impression. The #3 RB job would seem to be Forsett’s to lose, but could Moore possibly steal a roster spot with a good performance in camp and preseason?

11. Injuries ruined Red Bryant’s rookie season before it even began. How much of a factor will he be in 2009?

12. Seattle plans to play Cory Redding at left defensive end on running downs and move him inside to tackle on passing downs. Can Redding contribute at both end AND tackle, or would he benefit from focusing more on a single position?

13. How far can Lofa Tatupu bounce back after a disappointing 2008 season?

14. Seattle’s starting three linebackers are set (or will be after Curry signs) but what about linebacking depth? The other four linebackers currently on the roster are David Hawthorne, Will Herring, Lance Laury and the venerable but injury-prone D. D. Lewis. For a defense that will be carried at least to some extent by the linebackers, do the Seahawks have enough depth at the position in case injuries strike again in ’09?

15. Is Kelly Jennings’ career on the line or does the team still believe he can be a viable contributor in a reduced role?

16. Does Ken Lucas have a lock on the starting job opposite Marcus Trufant, or can Josh Wilson push Lucas into the nickel CB role with a good camp and preseason?

17. How much of a chance does Jordan Babineaux have to take the starting safety job away from Brian Russell? Are C. J. Wallace and/or Jamar Adams viable contenders for the position?

18. Tim Ruskell stated that Seattle would not carry two kickers again this season. Who has the edge: Olindo Mare or Brandon Coutu?

19. It’s hard to believe Seattle will suffer as many injuries this year as they did in 2008, but can they get through camp and preseason without any major injuries in 2009?

20. Seahawk fans will get to watch training camp for the first time since 2006. How will the camp experience be for fans in the more confined grounds at VMAC as opposed to Cheney's Eastern Washington University campus?
